Kendrick Meek’s U.S. Senate campaign will sponsor will sponsor Mike Wallace’s race car at the NASCAR Nationwide Series Race in Daytona February 13.
“The NASCAR family is hurting right now, as are Florida families,” said a Meek news release. “I’m running for the Senate to get Florida’s economy working again for the NASCAR Nation and all families throughout this state.”
Meek’s campaign is also sponsoring an online contest, with the prize being a pit pass for the event, at his web site .
Campaigning at NASCAR races is a tradition in Florida politics. George W. Bush courted NASCAR dads at Daytona during his 2004 re-election campaign.
As the leading Democrat in the Senate race, Meek has had some difficulty getting noticed—the battle between Charlie Crist and Marco Rubio for the GOP nomination has sucked up all the attention.
