Lee to announce for state Senate

Former state Senate President Tom Lee of Brandon is about to announce he’ll run to return to the Senate.
Lee will run for the seat being vacated by Ronda Storms, who announced today she will run for Hillsborough County property appraiser.
Lee said he’s had numerous contacts from local Republicans since news broke of a sexual harassment complaint about Property Appraiser Rob Turner suggesting he run for property appraiser, but he didn’t wish to do that.
Turner has told reporters he won’t leave his position, but he faces re-election in November.
Lee said he’s been discussing the possibility of running for Storms’ seat with state Senate leaders for some time, but those discussions quickly accelerated Friday when Storms announced she’ll leave the seat to run against Turner.
“I’ve been in contact with a number of Senate leaders and members of the GOP today.”
Lee, a homebuilder from a politically prominent East Hillsborough family, has a dominant name in politics in the area.
