As a gaggle of Polk County commissioners and government officials heads north to Atlanta to tour an Atlanta rail hub as background for considering the planned CSX hub in Winter Haven, a regular PCNB reader has called to let me know that a CSX train has apparently broken down through downtown Lakeland, snarling traffic. My reader tells me he’s been in traffic for 90 minutes.
Police radio traffic indicates that it is a CSX train that’s broken down and that there’s no prediction for when it will be removed. This is precisely the type of impact that critics of the train project fear.
