U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor, a comparatively early backer of Barack Obama in Florida, is getting her moment in the sun—onstage introducing Obama.
Castor began her speech, “Buenas dias. Como esta.” She then invoked her mother, Betty Castor, former Florida education commissioner and University of South Florida president, who Kathy said inspired her to back Obama.
Castor was the first speaker of the day to sound a theme likely to be important in the campaign, tying John McCain to President Bush: “We cannot continue the damaging policies of George Bush and John McCain,” she said.
