We’re still at the University Area Transfer Center.
With her young children buzzing around, Indera Montague waits for a bus at the station. The Tampa woman has three boys, 8, 7 and 5. She spots two and cranes her neck around to see the third.
She rides the bus every day from Temple Terrace to her job at USF. Today she is off, though, but did take the bus to go see a doctor.
She’s corralling her kids and heading home. It’s just before 10 a.m. She hopes the bus is on time.
“It’s convenient,” she says, “and cheaper than having a car. Gas is so expensive.”
She came here three years ago from New York, where mass transit is a lifestyle, she said.
She wouldn’t have it any other way.
“It works for me,” she says.
