We’ve spent a lot of time in the last two weeks looking at the CSX intermodal center planned for Winter Haven. The culmination of that process can be seen in this Tribune story, which ran on Saturday. Whether or not you’ve been following the CSX plan, I encourage you to check out the story.
In another Trib story worth noting, my colleague and lead Tribune political reporter William March, writes about a recent college classroom appearance by Florida Gov. Charlie Crist. What’s noteworthy for Polk in this appearance is that Crist expressed rather pointed opposition to the proposed Heartland Parkway, which is bound up in discussion of the CSX project.
The story doesn’t include this, but March said Crist called the parkway a “road to nowhere,” while emphasizing that he meant no disrespect to the region where the road would go. Crist said he doesn’t consider the area one of Florida’s traffic pressure points.
