Ike has weakened just a bit due to increased shear. The storm is a very strong Category 2 with sustained winds near 110 mph. The hurricane is expected to move into a little more favorable environment for strengthening over the next 24 to 48 hours. The latest forecast track takes Ike along Cuba and weakening the storm a little more before it moves into the Gulf of Mexico. The bay area remains in the forecast cone of uncertainty and we will all have to continue to monitor the latest forecast track of this storm. If Ike were to pay us a visit, we would see the effects move into the region late Wednesday and for most of Thursday.
So what do we do now, you ask? We make sure our preparations are ready. Get your hurricane kits and plans ready in case we need to use them this week. If you have that done, well, enjoy the weekend. It is awesome outside right now! Just make sure to stay informed of the latest Ike updates. There is a lot of error in the forecast this many days out so expect many changes in the days to come.
