The thunderstorms that waded across Pasco, Hillsborough, Polk and into Hardee counties during the afternoon produced one report of a tornado touching down, large hail and some hefty wind gusts, the National Weather Service reported.
The weather service received a report that a tornado briefly touched down in the Hardee County community of Spring Lake, five miles southeast of Sebring about 4 p.m. There were reports of trees knocked down as well as damage to carports and awnings. No injuries were reported.
The weather service also received a report of a 50 mph gust near Interstate 4 and State Road 579 in Hillsborough.
Also in Hillsborough, pea-size hail fell three miles north of the I-4 and Interstate 75 intersection, the Florida Fairgrounds, and near Lithia Pinecrest Road and State Road 60.
Hail the size of a nickle was reported in Wesley Chapel and marble-size hail was reported near State Road 60 in Frostproof.
