As forecasted, Gustav has explosively intensified into a Category Three Hurricane with sustained winds of 120 mph. The forecast track still takes the storm across the western edge of Cuba and heading straight out into the open waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Conditions will continue to be conducive for strengthening in the Gulf and the storm may reach Category 4 wind speeds by Sunday afternoon. However atmospheric conditions may weaken the storm slightly closer to its forecasted landfall on Tuesday, but Gustav is still forecast to make landfall as a major hurricane. Tropical Storm Watches and Warnings are posted for parts of the Florida Keys and we will see some effects here too! A few showers are already popping up with the increased moisture in the mid and upper levels and we are seeing cloud cover from the outer edges of Gustav building into our southern counties. Some of the storms we see today could be strong so make sure to take a peek at the radar before you head out this afternoon.
