Gustav has been battering Hispaniola with rain and winds, but the land has beat back Gustav to tropical storm status. Once the storm moves off of Haiti, it will quickly strengthen into a category 1 storm. As Gustav passes Jamaica and the Caymans it will still be getting stronger.
Then, just south of Cuba the storm is forecast to rapidly become a major hurricane and arrive into the Gulf of Mexico with winds of 120 mph.
As you can see, we are not in the forecast cone, but if the blocking ridge begins to weaken the forecast track could shift east. Be sure to check the forecast this week and weekend.
