On U.S. 301, Florida Department of Transportation workers are busier than the polls. Wearing their trademark orange vests, they scoop up armfuls of candidate signs at a time. It’s illegal to post them on the right of way.
“This has been going on for months,” DOT worker Richard Miller says. “We don’t throw them away, we take them back to our office, and the candidates can pick them up.”
If they’re lucky, candidates will need those signs for the general election in November.
