There will be pirates, floats and beads, but one of the biggest stars at Gasparilla will be the beer.
More than 225,000 signature Gasparilla beer bottles were produced for Saturday’s festivities by Pepin Distributing Company, a Tampa-based bottler. Most of the bottles have been delivered to grocery stores and bars, but 5,000 were reserved for the parade route.
The 16-ounce aluminum bottles – blue for Bud Light and red for Budweiser – feature the Gasparilla logo and an imprint of the infamous pirate ship.
‘’They’re sleak, they’re convenient and they tend to keep the beer colder,’’ said Bill Gieseking, Pepin’s director of marketing.
After having no official beer distributor for last year’s parade, Gasparilla officials signed a three-year contract with Pepin this year.
Gieseking plans to have a different bottle design each year.
‘’I think we could probably make it into some kind of collector’s edition,’’ he said.
