Julie Monroe, 27, campaigns
for Al Fox outside of St. John
the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church.

The two campaign workers holding signs for Al Fox in south Tampa have no connection to Bay area, other than their support of the congressional candidate. Julie Monroe, 27, is from Washington, D.C., and Daniel Perez, 23, is from San Diego.
Fox’s position on Cuba - he favors opening U.S. relations with the communist country - has gained him a national following, Perez says. Many of those supporters have come to Tampa for the primary.
Monroe felt so strongly about the issue of U.S.- Cuba relations that she decided to use her vacation time from work to come to Tampa.
“The policy is outdated,” she says. “It’s only working for special interest groups.”
