Hundreds of demonstrators got a break on the Tampa Sports Authority’s $5 parking fee, thanks to authority chairman and La Gaceta publisher Patrick Manteiga.
He and other volunteers handed out $5 bills to motorists about 50 feet away from a TSA employee collecting the fee.
He’d hoped to pay the whole fee for the lots so people could park free, but that didn’t happen. He said he collected the money from congressional candidate Al Fox and state House candidate Mike Scionti.
Tampa businessman Arturo Sousa, who owns a sign and graphics shop, was so impressed he came back with $300 in $5 bills and started handing those out.
The Edgar J. Guzman law firm handed out pens and flags. Guzman said he’s encouraging people to get written permission from employers before they come to rallies so they don’t lose their jobs. This movement, because participants are undocumented, doesn’t have a front person, he said. In the civil rights movement, it was easier to have representatives.

Hey, why stop at free parking? Why not give them free gasoline and lunch?
