The St. Pete Times Forum, it turns out, isn’t full for the Barack Obama rally.
With Obama about to speak in a few minutes, the top section of seats is mostly empty, which means the attendance probably hasn’t hit the 20,000 mark.
City officials had planned on the event filling the arena, and the campaign believed it might, based on the number of tickets given out.
But the campaign has also been very reluctant to announce the number of tickets given out or to forecast attendance. They were worried about what apparently has happened—some people with tickets didn’t show up, possibly worried about parking, congestion and security hassles.
______________
Update: The crowd estimate is more than 15,000, the campaign says, basing that on information from Forum officials.
