Final Morning of Putnam’s House GOP Leadership

In less than an hour, House Republicans retreat behind closed doors to elect their new leadership team for the next session that begins in January.

That means that Rep. Adam Putnam of Bartow is in his final hours as the third-ranking House Republican, having decided not to seek re-election by his colleagues to the conference leader post. In that role, he has been the main party spokesman since late 2006.

Though held behind closed doors, the results are considered foregone.

Minority Leader John Boehner of Ohio is expected to re-elected; Rep. Eric Cantor of Virginia is expected to be picked to succeed Rep. Roy Blunt of Missouri as Republican Whip; and Rep. Mike Pence of Indiana is expected to succeed Putnam
