Early vote wait times in Miami: 2.5-6 hours

At the 7 p.m. close of early voting hours in peninsular Florida, despite the Florida Division of Elections reports that early voting was going smoothly, the Miami-Dade elections office was reporting waiting times of two and a half to six hours at early voting stations.

The waiting times were reported as of 6:45 p.m. on the Miami-Dade government web site, here.

There were also long lines at early voting sites in Hillsborough County Saturday. At the Jan Platt Library in South Tampa, there was a line of more than 100 people, with more arriving, shortly before 7 p.m.

During the day, Democrats angrily blamed Gov. Rick Scott and the Republican-led state Legislature for the lines—the Legislature for shortening the early voting period and Scott for refusing last-minute requests to extend early voting through Sunday.

“Voters can thank Rick Scott for 5 and 6 hour wait times,” was the headline on a news release from state Democratic Party Chairman Rod Smith.
