Driver Safety

By Crystal Lauderdale
The Tampa Tribune

Officer Randy Davis of the Tampa Police Department is at the Florida State Fair speaking to people about driving safety. The educational effort is timely in light of eight accident-related deaths that occured over the weekend. Davis is afraid, however, that people will continue to neglect safe driving practices. “It’s literally a life or death situation,” said Davis.

"The educational effort is timely in light of the last eight fatalities over the weekend.” I say the educational effort is way way late. What about the last hundred fatalities? What about the enforcment effort in Hillsborough county? It’s non existant. Why do you think people drive like they do around here? They know if they get a ticket for running a yellow or red light it’s some kind of fluke. Shure, a couple time a year they put a flood of cops out and do some enforcment then they go away and it’s back to normal suicidal everyday driving. Lets put the blame where it belongs. THERE IS NO ENFORCEMENT IN THIS TOWN AS LONG AS THAT IS A FACT PEOPLE ARE GOING TO DRIVE THE WAY THEY WANT - NOT THE WAY THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO!  Richard Noble
