In what could be a major blow to Gov. Charlie Crist’s campaign for the U.S. Senate, Mario and Lincoln Diaz-Balart, the congressmen/brothers from Miami, appear to have withdrawn their endorsement of Crist.

The Diaz-Balarts’ names are no longer on Crist’s campaign web site under his list of endorsements from congress members, and the Miami Herald is reporting they’ve withdrawn it, quoting Lincoln as saying only, “He knows why.”

There was no immediate response from Crist or the Diaz-Balarts’ press spokesmen to inquiries about the situation.
Update: Crist campaign spokeswoman Andrea Saul has confirmed that the Diaz-Balarts have withdrawn their endorsement, but wouldn’t offer any details about when or why.

Saul’s statement: “Gov. Crist is enthused by the support he continues to receive across the state for next year’s primary. He looks forward to working with the Diaz-Balart’s and the entire congressional delegation to better the lives of Floridians as Florida’s next U.S. senator.”
