The hosts of upcoming fundraisers for County Commissioners Brian Blair and Ken Hagan are a virtual who’s-who of Hillsborough County’s development industry.
The host lists are identical for Blair’s fund-raiser is Thursday and Hagan’s event Oct. 11. They include developer Bing Kearny; development consultant Todd Pressman; land-use lawyer Judy James, a director of the Tampa Bay Builders Association; concrete products manufacturer Ralph Hughes; and Sam Rashid, founder of a lumber milling products company. Hughes and Rashid are long-time contributors to conservative candidates and causes.
Also on the list:
—Tampa developer Stephen Dibbs, best known for his push to eliminate the county Environmental Protection Commission’s wetlands protection program. Blair, a leading critic of the wetlands program, voted along with Hagan to eliminate the agency, but both changed their votes after popular opposition arose.
—Rand Gentry, owner of the Cheval Golf and Country Club.
—Hung Mai, an engineer who has worked for Dibbs. County commissioners recently appointed Hung to the City-County Planning Commission.
—Vincent Marchetti, a land-use lawyer who most recently argued before the Planning Commission that the county’s urban service boundary should be expanded.
—Developer Carl Streck.
—Ed Tubel, owner of Sonny’s Real Pit Bar-B-Q
—Lawyer John Wilcox, who specializes in environmental, water and construction law.
