Rick Dantzler, the public face of the group of landowners pushing for the Heartland Parkway, praised the Polk County Commission Monday for calling on the state to force the planned CSX hub in Winter Haven to go through a full regional review.
During a Tiger Bay Club meeting in Bartow, I asked Dantzler if he supported a regional review for the hub.
Dantzler hesitated before answering, making it clear that he was speaking as a private citizen, not on behalf of the parkway backers.
“Speaking from the standpoint of Rick Dantzler, I thought the County Commission did the right thing,” he said.
A split commission voted 3-2 to send a letter to the state asking it reconsider its informal decision that the hub isn’t big enough to be a development of regional impact. The Lake Wales City Commission voted unanimously last week to back the county.
