I think this is important to note in the CSX debate.
The Ledger had a story published Thursday that said this:
“When completed in 2020, CSX’s Integrated Logistics Center, or ILC, will employ at least 5,000 people and generate millions of dollars in economic activity each year.”
Unless something has changed, and Winter Haven spokeswoman Joy Townsend told me today that it has not, the job numbers cited here are simply wrong.
There’s no sourcing for the statement, so I’m not sure who this job number came from. But CSX and Winter Haven have long stated that 200 jobs are projected at the hub. Another 1,800 are possible at the distribution center that makes up the second phase and will be built out over a decade or so. That’s 2,000, at best.
Here’s my post on the subject from last month.
If Joy Townsend is wrong, and something has changed, I will, of course, promptly correct this.
