There’s been a good deal of press lately suggesting that Gov. Charlie Crist has jumped off the McCain bandwagon, now that the governor has been passed over for vice president and the senator has fallen in the polls.
Reporters have noted that Crist has spoken indifferently about the time he plans to devote to the GOP presidential campaign.
Today, Crist told reporters that he is doing whatever he can to help McCain “and will continue to do so.” He also said that his first responsibility is to Florida and its people. “I’m going to stay focused on Mission 1, which is Florida, and when I have time to help out my friend, I’m eager and anxious to do so.”
Crist, who plans to campaign with McCain in South Florida this week, warned against writing off McCain, whose bid for the presidency was considered a no-go about this time last year. “He’s a strong closer.”

Of course! Charlie remains as transparent in his “reduced effort” backing McCain as he was during his “increased effort” while he thought he had a shot as VP.
