TAMPA - U.S. Coast Guard crews from the Clearwater Air Station flew to Haiti on Friday to deliver food and supplies for residents lambasted by Tropical Storm Hanna last week.
The storm caused extensive flooding in Gonaives on Monday and Tuesday when it passed through the Caribbean.
On Friday, crews aboard two HH-60 Jayhawk helicopters delivered supplies to about 2,000 people impacted by the storm.
Crews from the U.S. Coast Guard cutter Legare also loaded 33 to 35 tons of additional supplies on Friday and those supplies were expected to be delivered on Saturday to Gonaives.
Supplies included food such as rice, beans and vegetables; water, hygiene and medical kits and shelter items such as tents and plastic sheeting.
