More Rain This Morning; Much Colder Later Today

A slow-moving cold front is keeping lots of rain and clouds in our morning forecast, but changes are in store this afternoon.  The front will get an extra push of energy, allowing the system to finally move down to the south.

The good news?  Well, the rain will come to an end by this afternoon, and skies will clear.  The bad news?  It is going to be much, much cooler!  In fact,  temperatures won’t rise too much this afternoon, and some parts of the Tampa Bay area will have seen their recorded highs for the day occur early this morning.

Once the skies begin to clear, temperatures will drop rapidly.  News Channel 8 is forecasting a low of 39 degrees in Tampa for Saturday morning, and that means areas north of the Bay will be cold!

A freeze warning has been issued for Citrus and Hernando counties for early Saturday morning.  If you live in these areas or the normally colder inland spots, you’ll want to make sure to protect your sensitive plants and don’t forget about your pets!  It will be gusty at times so the temperatures will feel even colder than they really are.

High pressure will move off to the east by Sunday, and this will help to warm temperatures for Super Bowl Sunday.  Sunday morning will still have some chilly readings, but afternoon highs will rebound into the mid- and upper 60s.  Temperatures will begin to slowly fall into the upper 50s to low 60s during the game.

If you are visiting from Pittsburgh, I will translate Sunday’s forecast from Floridian to something you’ll better understand:  perfect football weather.  The 50s and 60s feel pretty darn good compared with the frozen tundra you’ve experienced this winter.
