CLEARWATER - David Gracy’s wife let him sit down.
He and his wife, Debora, had been at Westfield Shoppingtown, previously known as the Countryside Mall, since 4 a.m., and it was 10:25 a.m.
“Are we done for the day?” Gracy, a 46-year-old product manager from Jacksonville, asked his wife after he sat down outside a Payless ShoeSource store.
“Almost,” she said, with a smile.
“I’m kind of amazed she’s letting me sit here,” he said. “We have things to do.”
Their reason for the trek?
Well, JCPenny was having “it’s best sale ever,” David Gracy said, tongue placed firmly in cheek. The store, he added, is always having its best sale ever.
Typically, David doesn’t accompany his wife on Black Friday. But they are visiting Pinellas County, and he is more familiar with the local shopping centers than she is.
After chatting, David and Debora got back up.
“We got a pair of shoes to pick up for somebody,” he said.
