Tired of being dissed by the Democrats at one debate after another, fringe presidential candidate Mike Gravel left the party, signing up as a Libertarian.
For their part, the Libs are happy about it. They say Gravel’s arrival shows that they are a ‘big tent organization.’ My guess is they’re still smarting from the long-ago departure of the significantly more credible Ron Paul.
Wonkette has an account of the change, an excellent collection of Gravel’s avant-garde videos, and the hint that Gravel may continue running for president under the banner of his new party. The Libertarians don’t mention this potential development in their press release, but a Washington Post blogger got them to address the question.
Let the backlash begin. Here’s one blogger who’s already calling Gravel a LINO.
