The office of U.S. Rep. Bill Young of Indian Shores has announced he’ll undergo back surgery Tuesday or Wednesday to repair an acute slipped disc.
The announcement said Young has been experiencing increasing pain from pressure the bulging disk has placed on nerves in his lower back, and doctors recommended surgery based on a CT scan and MRI results.
Congress is scheduled for an August recess starting at at the end of this week, and Young and his doctors “determined that surgery now would allow time for him to recover and resume his normal schedule when Congress reconvenes,” said the announcement.
Young is running for re-election to his 21st term, facing a challenge from Democratic state Sen. Charlie Justice of St. Petersburg.
