Rep. Allen West, who’s recently become a hero to the conservative wing of the Republican Party, left the door open on jumping into the U.S. Senate primary in an interview Thursday.
“The door is cracked very slightly,” he said when asked about entering the primary.
GOP insiders have been speculating about new candidates entering the race, particularly since the fundraising leader, state Senate President Mike Haridopolos, dropped out last month.
West elevated his profile recently with a verbal feud with Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, who’s also national Democratic Party chairman; but he disappointed some tea party supporters by voting for the debt ceiling increase.
