Here are some figures to remember as the last U.S. forces begin to make their way home from Iraq.
Nearly 9: Years we have been at war in Iraq.
4,478: The number of U.S. service members who made the ultimate sacrifice in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom and New Dawn.
$750 billion. The cost in treasure.
Beyond the deaths and money are the stories of the families left behind while a loved one served, the grievously injured fighting to recover and communities coming together to help.
Check this space later today for one family’s struggle after a wife with two disabled children now has to take care of her husband, horrifically wounded in Iraq.
To all those returning, welcome home.
And to all who served, thanks.
