Watching the northern Atlantic

The hurricane center is still watching an area of low pressure way off in the Atlantic about 425 miles north-northeast of the Azores as it continues to generate thunderstorms and winds of more than 30 mph.

But forecasters at the hurricane center don’t expect it to become the season’s second tropical depression. It’s over some pretty chilly water and will head over water that’s even colder as it moves east today.

Forecasters give it less than a 30 percent chance to turn into anything, and we probably won’t be hearing much about it after today.

So, for day three of the hurricane season, that low pressure area is the only thing they are watching.
