Thompson Plans Fundraiser In Tampa Following Announcement

Sources close to the Fred Thompson presidential campaign say the campaign told supporters in a conference call today he’ll announce his intentions in the race next week, probably Thursday, and local Republicans say Thompson is setting up a fundraiser to be held in Tampa in mid-September, during a Florida campaign swing.

That decision is expected to be that he is running.

Rep. Adam Putnam, R-Bartow, was among those on the conference call, the sources said. Putnam couldn’t be reached for direct comment.

Local Republicans said Thompson backers have been making calls to recruit participants for a fundraiser in Tampa Sept. 18, during a campaign swing that will also include a stop in Tallahassee and other events.
