Steven Craig Stanford, one of six announced candidates for the Republican nomination to the 11th District Congressional seat held by Kathy Castor, D-Tampa, said he has no plans to qualify for the race.

“I filed, but I’m out,” Stanford said Friday. “I got in early, unhappy with the potential race against Castor. But some other guys with similar ideologies jumped in,” so Stanford decided to step aside, he said Friday.

The South Tampa Republican filed as a candidate in the race on March 16 of last year.

The primary is Aug. 24 for candidates who qualify during the week of June 14-18.
