Don’t honor me, honor those who serve and their families.
That’s the message sent by U.S. Special Operations Command commander Adm. William McRaven via his public affairs office when I asked for his thoughts on being a runner-up for Time magazine’s Person of the Year, which went to “The Protester.”
“It is an honor for Time to select me as a runner up to their ‘Person of the Year,’ but the honor is misplaced,” replied McRaven. “Any tribute paid should be paid to the men, women and families of U.S. Special Operations Command and the rest of the Department of Defense for their decade of continuous sacrifice for the nation.”
