“I’m convinced that the Republican candidate who wins Florida will be our nominee for President,” said Gov. Rick Scott, opening the state Republican Party’s Presidency 5 straw poll and convention in Orlando moments ago.
“As Florida goes, so goes the nation. And as you go, so goes Florida,” he told the 3,471 convention delegates assembled at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando. “Florida will be the most important battleground in the country—again.”
Those delegates are about to cast votes in the Republican presidential primary, and the result will be announced about 6 p.m.. Scott noted that in each of the three previous election cycles when the straw poll has been held, the winner has gone on to be the party’s nominee.
