Gov. Rick Scott will be in Tampa during most of the the three days of the national Republican Party’s meeting here this week, and will give a speech to a private gathering of the attendees tonight at the Tampa Yacht Club.
In response to inquiries, Republican National Committee spokesperson Ryan Tronovitch just sent out an email to “clarify that tonight’s reception is closed to the press.”
Most of the events at the meeting—the party’s summer quarterly business meeting—are also closed to the press or anyone except Republican National Committee members.
The meetings deal mostly with internal party business such as party rules and the platform, but will also include political strategy and discussion of issues including “election integrity” and the debt ceiling debate.
There’s also likely to be discussion, but no specific action, on the controversy over states including Florida that want to have 2012 presidential primaries on dates earlier than party rules allow.
Besides Scott, U.S. Rep. Allen West also was chose for a prime speaking spot in a private gathering—he’ll speak to the group Thursday night during a reception at the Tampa Museum of Art. Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal will give an open-press speech at lunch Thursday.
