Florida U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, considered by pundits and many Republicans the leading prospect in the nation to be running mate for a Republican candidate for president, once again ruled out the idea in an interview Wednesday.
Rubio has repeatedly denied being interested in running for any other office in 2012.
Wednesday, he was asked about the subject during a forum sponsored by news agencies in Washington. Asked whether he “craves” the office, he said, “I don’t crave it. I wanted to be a United States senator. I didn’t run for the Senate as an opportunity to have a launching pad for some other job.”
Would he turn it down if offered?
“Yeah, I believe so. I’m not going to be the vice presidential nominee. I’m not focused on that. I’m focused on my job right now. And the answer is going to probably be no,” he said. Then he quickly added, “The answer is going to be no,” saying he didn’t want it reported that, “He left the door open.”
Here’s the video; the veep questions come at the end of the interview.
