Romney, Santorum to speak at major NRA event

With the controversy over the shooting of Trayvon Martin still going nationwide, the top two GOP presidential candidates, Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum, are both scheduled to speak at a major NRA event in St. Louis April 13, according to an NRA news release.
The event is a Celebration of American Values Leadership Forum, being held as part of the organization’s weekend-long Annual Meetings and Exhibits. The forum will be followed on April 15 by a Celebration of American Values Freedom Event, at which the main speaker is Glenn Beck.
The NRA says it expects 65,000 attendees and 500 exhibitors on 340,000 square feet of exhibit hall space at America’s Center in St. Louis. Here’s the group’s page on the forum.
The NRA was the originator of the Stand Your Ground law that has been part of the controversy over the Martin shooting. Former Gov. Jeb Bush signed the law in a ceremony including NRA Florida head Marion Hammer in 2005.
Spokesmen for the Romney and Santorum campaigns haven’t responded yet to queries from FSP confirming their attendance.
