The Mitt Romney and Rick Perry campaigns released duelling Youtube attacks on each other Wednesday and today—Perry attacking Romney as a flip-flopper and hypocrite, and Romney attacking Perry as a buffoon unable to take on President Barack Obama—but Romney has now pulled his video off the Internet.
Perry’s video, “Misleading,” hits Romney over his Massachusetts health care plan, saying it was the model for Obama’s health care reform, and over Romney’s hiring of a lawn care company that employed illegal aliens.
Romney’s video, “Ready to Lead?” was a montage of awkward moments and stumbles by Perry during the presidential debates, in which he was widely said to have put on poor performances, suggesting that means he’s not able to take on Obama. It was pulled only a few hours after the Romney campaign sent it out, accompanied by news releases, Wednesday afternoon.
It was still visible at one web site as of this morning, however—you can look for it here. There have been reports it was taken down because conservatives objected to it, but that’s not accurate, said Romney campaign spokesman Ryan Williams.
“CNN asked us to take it down because it used some of their content. We complied with their request,” he said in an email response to an FSQ inquiry. “While the use of the CNN clips was fully within our rights under the law, we respect and appreciate the role CNN has played as host in debates over the last several months. For this reason, we are honoring their request to remove the video.”
Romney has also launched a web site, careerpolitician.com, attacking Perry as an entrenched incumbent with a poor record for creating jobs in Texas.
