Mitt Romney has long had the most extensive political campaign organization among the GOP presidential primary contenders, but hadn’t announced a list of county chairs.
So today, the day after Newt Gingrich announced a “grass roots team” of backers in all 67 counties, Romney—not to be outdone—announced his. Unlike Gingrich’s list, Romney’s shows support from the Republican Party establishment, dotted with prominent elected Republican officeholders.
They include five backers in Hillsborough County—Sheriff David Gee as honorary chairman, developer and fundraiser Bill “Hoe” Brown as chairman, and Brandon lawyer Clifton Curry, former county commissioner Chris Hart, Plant City businessman and former mayor Rick Lott and Tampa businesswoman Donna Turner as co-chairs.
In Pasco County, the list is led by county commissioners Ann Hildebrand and Jack Mariano; in Pinellas, by St. Petersburg Mayor Bill Foster and Clearwater Mayor Frank Hibbard.
