Mitt Romney said in a news interview today that the sexual harassment allegations against Herman Cain are serious and “particularly disturbing.”
In an interview with George Stephanopoulos on ABC news, Romney said, “These are serious allegations ... And they’re going to have to be addressed seriously.
“Any time there is an accuser that comes forward with charges of this nature you recognize this is a very serious matter and it should be taken seriously.”
The Cain campaign has said his most recent accuser, Sharon Bialek, is lying, and suggests she may have been offered money or a job to make her accusations, though it offered no evidence to back that up.
Romney said he wouldn’t speculate on her truthfulness—“I don’t want to suppose truth or lack of truth. I just think it’s important to recognize that a number of women have come forward with concerns. This woman’s charges are particularly disturbing and they’re serious.”
