Putnam Praises AG Nominee

Rep. Adam Putnam had been on the record since spring in calling for Alberto Gonzales to resign as U.S. Attorney General.

Now, Putnam is wasting no time in praising President Bush’s pick of a replacement – retired judge Michael Mukasey.

In a statement sent out by his office today, Putnam says that Bush “has selected the right person at the right time to serve as our nation’s next attorney general.

Putnam goes on to say there’s a “pressing need” for Mukasey’s leadership to help restore morale at the Justice Department and that “neither he nor the nation deserves to have his nomination process become a proxy battle between the White House and Democrat leaders.”

The Senate should confirm Mukasey in short order, says Putnam.
