Pew poll: “Mixed views” on Rubio after SOTU respones

A poll by the respected Pew Research Center finds what it calls “mixed views” among the public about Florida Sen. Marco Rubio following his response to the State of the Union speech, but with slightly higher negative than positive opinions.

Among all respondents in the poll, 26 percent viewed Rubio favorably, 29 percent unfavorably, and 45 percent said they didn’t know enough to offer a rating.

Among Republicans, particularly those aligned with the tea party movement, Rubio fared much better.

Respondents who identified themselves as Republicans gave Rubio 49 percent favorable to 18 percent unfavorable ratings, with 32 percent no-answer responses. Among tea party sympathizers, it was 70 percent favorable, 7 percent unfavorable and 23 percent no answer.

The poll included 1,003 telephone interviews Feb. 14-17, half by land line and half by cell, for a 3.7-point error margin, or 7.3 points for Republican-only questions.
