Perry to compete in P5 straw poll

Texas Gov. Rick Perry has announced that unlike Republican presidential primary opponents Mitt Romney and Michele Bachmann, he’ll compete in the Florida Republican Party’s Presidency 5 straw poll.

“I appreciate everything you do for the party, and feel it is important for our nominee to actively solicit the support of grassroots leaders like you,” he said in an email message to P5 delegates.

Romney, Bachmann and other prominent candidates probably will be on the P5 ballot, and will attend the convention and associated events in Orlando Sept. 22-24, even though they’ve said they’re officially not competing.
