Rick Perry, formerly running near the top of the GOP primary pack in Florida, has lost substantial ground in the state since his less-than-stellar performance in the Fox debate held during the state party’s Presidency 5 convention, a new poll indicates.
The poll by Gainesville GOP consulting firm War Room Logistics showed Perry dropping from 25 percent to 9 percent between Sept. 20 and Sept. 30. The debate was the night of Sept. 22.
In the Sept. 20 poll, Perry was tied with Mitt Romney for first place, with Newt Gingrich in a distant third.
The Sept. 30 numbers show Romney jumping into first with 28 points, and Herman Cain, surprise winner of the straw poll held at Presidency 5, moving from sixth place with 5 percent to a close second with 24 percent Sept. 30.
