Pasco GOP endorses McCollum, hoping to clear field

The Pasco County Republican Party has endorsed Bill McCollum for governor, hoping to help him avoid a primary challenge.

The party executive committee voted 113-1 last night to make the endorsement, according to a release from Chairman Randy Maggard.

McCollum has something of a head start in Pasco County—for years, as a member of Congress, his district included much of the county.

McCollum is now attorney general, but could face a challenge in the GOP primary for governor from state Sen. Paula Dockery of Lakeland or former state Sen. Dan Webster of Winter Park.
