New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has decided to stay out of the presidential race—at least according to an New York Times report based on unnamed advisers.
Christie is expected to announce his intentions today in a 1 p.m. news conference.
The NYT says the decision is no, according to “one adviser to the governor and another person who spoke to him directly.”
Christie said frequently earlier this year that he wasn’t interested in running, even joking that he’d have to kill himself to convince people he wasn’t interested, but reopened the door recently, as the field of candidates appears increasingly unsettled. The decision will put the focus in the race back on two or three candidates—Mitt Romney, the surging Herman Cain and Rick Perry—with other candidates still fighting to get attention and
move into the top tier.
