WASHINGTON – Florida Sen. Bill Nelson just lashed out at John McCain’s call for an end to a federal ban on new drilling off the shores of Florida and other states.
In a conference with reporters on behalf of Barack Obama’s campaign, Democrat Nelson at one point said McCain’s positions shows his “coziness with oil companies and Wall Street investment banks that are fueling this run up in (gas) prices …”
“John McCain has flip-flopped on drilling off the coast,” said Nelson. “He used to be against it. He’s now for it.”
But the problem, said Nelson, is that “drilling off shore does not lower oil prices.”
“Now, if you really want to bring down prices, then you have to go after the speculators so they cannot use these schemes to keep running the price up and up,” said Nelson.

Somehow our Senators And Reps seem to forget that the electorate is playing who’s your daddy. There only there through the vote of the people, not the special interest greenies. I’m a hunter and fisherman and appreciate the enviorment more than most people.
Suggest removalThe only oil spills in the US have involved shipping and not the oil drilling industry.
My vote in November will very much be directed by the bloviaters in Washington and Tallassee.
Have a great day,
Randy

With the price of oil as high as it is and probably going even higher, I feel we need to do what we can to decrease our dependency on foreign oil and that includes drilling off shore. Nelson criticizes McCain for changing his stand on off shore drilling but the change in the price of oil has dictated that we need to chance our ideas on off shore drilling and drilling in Alaska. When was the last time there was a large oil spill on a pipeline or off shore rig? I think we have improved our handing of oil to where we can drill in more areas. Alternate power sources are great but how many years will it take to perfect such alternative fuels? We need to do something about oil immediately.

I think it’s about time for Bill Nelson and the Democrats to get out of the way. It’s their policies that have created this artificial oil shortage by and making restricting domestic oil production, thus making us more dependent on foreign oil. Then OPEC started cutting back on production a few years ago, and we’re just now feeling the impact of it. This is a simple “supply and demand” issue, NOT the “greedy oil companies,” and it’s now wrecking our economy by bringing back the inflation of the 70’s. It’s urgent that the American people finally “get” who is really responsible for this problem and do something about it.

Drilling won’t fix anything. US uses over 20 million barrels a day. Every drop of 18 billion gives us 2-3 yrs supply. It’s simple math. Since we don’t have refineries to process the oil it wouldn’t make a lick of difference anyway. Oil companies would actually have to sell to foreign refineries or outsource the work. It’s all about money people. If you don’t think drilling messes up the environment go to the coast of Texas or Louisiana. Let’s destroy Florida’s economy. Terrible!
