Ever wonder how many people from our area have served in Afghanistan and Iraq?

More than 20,000, enough to staff an entire division.

To honor those folks, Fifth Third Bank and the Camaraderie Foundation are going to set up a display of 20,677 American flags Friday, Dec. 2, at MacDill Park, 100 N. Ashley St.

The display will be presented in a ceremony at 11 a.m.

The Camaraderie Foundation is a non-profit providing private counseling services to post-911 military service members returning home and their families throughout Florida and parts of the United States.

The services the Camaraderie Foundation provides are crucial, especially now as thousands of troops will be returning home in December, for addressing serious issues like post-traumatic stress disorder, divorce, domestic abuse, alcohol or drug dependency and suicide.

There will be personnel from the Camaraderie Foundation on hand at the event to talk with veterans and discuss the many services they provide.

Volunteers are still needed from 6 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. to help set up the display. Coffee and donuts will be provided. Volunteers are also needed after the event to pick up the flags.
