McCollum says he raked in $1.4 million last quarter

Attorney General Bill McCollum just announced “a projected total of nearly $1.4 million” in campaign contributions for the fourth quarter of 2009—a gain of more than 60 percent over Q3 for the GOP gubernatorial candidate.

The McCollum campaign says it is still fine-tuning its calculations for official purposes; the reporting deadline is Jan. 11.

No word yet on fourth-quarter totals for Democratic candidate CFO Alex Sink, whose third-quarter tally of $1.6 million exceeded McCollum’s by about $600,000. Sen. Paula Dockery, McCollum’s challenger in the primary who entered the race at the start of November, has not yet released her total for Q4, either.

Here’s what the McCollum camp said today: “This show of support is clear evidence that Bill McCollum’s agenda to jump-start our economy and get Floridians back to work is resonating with donors and voters across the state. Our campaign’s growing momentum is also an indication that the expensive and risky big-government policies advocated by President Obama and supported by Alex Sink – from the stimulus to federally-mandated health care to job-killing cap-and-trade initiatives – will be rejected by Floridians at the ballot box in November.”

McCollum’s fundraising upswing coincides with an uptick for the GOP, which has announced that it raked in $4.5 million in Q4, up from $4 million the previous quarter.
